Rammer, the leading provider of smart breaker technology, is constantly striving to improve its durability with the goal of becoming the undisputed and recognized industry leader in the sector.
Reducing the carbon footprint and emissions at the Rammer plant sites is an essential part of the sustainability plan and the sites have worked to reduce the use of fossil fuels as much as possible.
Last year, the Rammer factory in Finland reduced its CO emissions by 500 tonnes2 emissions related to energy consumption, halving its emissions compared to the previous year and is in the process of replacing its natural gas supplies with sustainable and locally sourced biogas.
And that’s just the beginning. Since the Rammer factory has also switched to 100% carbon-free green heat, this means that heating the Rammer factory site is completely emission-free.
Commercial space heating in Finland is energy intensive when the temperature typically ranges from -11°C to 22°C throughout the year.
Responsible sourcing and waste minimization
Responsible sourcing throughout the value chain is an important part of improving sustainability so that Rammer customers can always have confidence in the products they choose and that their purchases come from resources and suppliers. responsibly managed.
As part of continuous process improvement, Rammer has implemented processes and practices to reduce the amount of waste produced and increase recycling rates.
Rammer breakers are manufactured using state-of-the-art ISO-compliant technology that consumes minimal electricity and recycles cutting fluids and metal shavings, and Rammer breakers are built to last.
However, when they reach the end of their life, the steel in every Rammer breaker can be recycled as it is 100% recyclable and over 95% of the metal components can be recycled.
In 2021, Rammer began reclaiming equipment packaging and has since returned over 12,000 kilograms of plywood packaging to its suppliers for reuse.
Environmentally friendly product innovations
As part of Rammer’s goal to help support more sustainable rock breaker operations, Rammer has developed Rammer BIO Tool Grease, a high performance biodegradable grease for hydraulic breakers in conjunction with key customers in the mining and to help them actively reduce the impact of their operations on the environment.
“Including sustainability in product development isn’t just something we do – it’s our way of thinking. We believe sustainability should be about how your products are designed and developed. For us, it’s a state of mind: we strive to create environmentally friendly product innovations for the mining industry with our green range products, such as Bio Tool Grease,” said Matti Kotro, director of product lifecycle management at Sandvik.
Rammer is part of the Sandvik Rock Processing Solutions business area which operates within the Sandvik Group, the global engineering giant in mining and rock excavation, metal cutting and materials technology.
